The day I set up my website and this newsletter, I was met with a short lasting yet overwhelming boost in confidence, I imagined myself at very substantial amount of subscribers, then signing a book deal. Soon enough, it was all shattered by my insecurities:
“What if I’m terrible?”
“What if people think i’m trying too hard”
Imagine being called up onto the stage of a club on improv night, and asked to perform, you have no jokes lined up, the fact is known by not only you but the rest of the audience too. Everyone’s making fun of you, watching you stutter as you try to crack a joke.
Maybe, none of this actually happens, but it’s the reality in our head.
And even if all that did happen, so what? Life would have gone on, and that would be the end of an embarrassing moment.
The truth is there are very few ‘pros’ around us, everyone’s just busy figuring out their own problems.
Life is too short to be worried about embarrassment.
It’s in our nature to want to remain dormant and maintain status quo.
Making a mistake and embarrassing yourself is better than remaining dormant and making no progress.
There is no spotlight focused on us; the crowd’s not watching us.
Take a leap of faith, and give up the ideal image.
It was embarrassing for me to see my writing published on the internet for the first time, and to have to tell my friends and family about it, I felt like an imposter.
Again and again, I felt embarrassed, until I didn't.
Consider the flip side of the coin: it could be your big break.
Go out and embarrass yourselves; your kick at the can is waiting on the other side.
